Rotating tires every 5,000 miles is what is recomended for any set of new tires.... but there should be no excessive wear within the 5,000 miles of travel. Plus, that rotation is to help the front and rear tires wear evenly over the entire tread... it has nothing to do with the inside tread wearing prematurly. You are correct that this is a problem with the 350Z.
Didn't this problem get to the point where it is a factory recall?

Further proof to not trust the dealer. I can't believe the guy went as far as to say the Z06 was a POS. What a moron. So, what happens when your rear wheels are larger the front wheels, and the tires are directional? You can't rotate them! Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Actually you can rotate them. It just takes a bit more work. You'll actually have to remove the tires from the rims and place them in the proper direction on the opposite rim. It's not easy but it'll work. Then again if you take it to a tire shop, you can pay them to do it.

Yea,yea, yea. Work, work, work. I was just talking about rotating, not dis-mounting, re-mounting and balancing. Most tire shop guys I've dealt with have the IQ of a tire, so I prefer to take my car in as infrequently as possible.

One guy at work bought one. He got the manual, but he also bought the abosulte base model. That's the most he could afford.
But, he does know how to drive it so I figure he probably would of wanted a manual anyway for the sports car feel of it. Its not just a commuter. He has an S10 truck for bad weather.

Well guys i got the touring model with auto-stick. It does work as nice as you would think. when you push the shifter over to manuel mode it drops one gear ,over and back it goes down two gears and locks in gear till shifted up. It will down shift automaticly but will stay locked in first after down shifting when coming to a stop. It may not launch as hard as a stick but you can hold the gas down and shift up or down with out lifting off the gas . only op I didnt get was the nav. the 240 watt bose sounds great at 125,with the seat hot. There is somthing to be said for the auto torque build up as aposed to the cluth not slipping. The othe side is six speeds up and down alot in traffic. cant blast all the time

The base model does not have the following features:
No auto tranny
No viscous limited-slip diff
No traction control system
No vehicle dynamic control
No HID xenon headlights
No heated outside mirrors
No UV-reducing solar glass
No Tire pressure monitor system
No Navi system option
No Homelink universal transceiver
No cruise control
No auto-dimming mirror
No dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors
No power or heated seats
No cross-drilled aluminum pedals
None of these are even offered as an option. I guess this is how they keep the price just under 30K. Not even cruise control though! Ugh!

Guys -
I drove a base 04 350z last week with the stock 17 inchers. The sale guy that I was dealing with just practically let me do my sh*t. He took me somewhere where I could really test driver the car. I must say, for a base car, the ride was thrilling. I was posting 70mph in turns where the posted speed limit was 15 mph. Not a squeal from the tires which said one thing to me, I'm not even close to the handling limit of the car. Poor sales guy when I was going though the turns started yelling "Holyshit" then quickly followed by "damn, you can drive" after I exit the turns. now since I own a track model, unless you drove both, body roll is noticeable with the base model. Why did I test drive the base model? well because I almost considered chaing the track model for the base with all of the nismo stage 3 package added and upgraded 6 piston front brake kit and 2 piston rear. the final verdict on the price would have been 34000 dollars. My point? well, I bought the Z strickly to get track time by joining different clubs. I'm still considering trading my track model but I would take a 3000 hit.
By the way, I'm going to at VIR virginia this weekend. This is going to be my first time at the track with my new Z. Anyone else going to VIR this weekend?

I picked up my base model 2006 on Aug 30, 2007
In 2006 the base model came with a few items not offered before
HID headlights
Heated outside mirrors
UV-reducing solar glass
Tire pressure monitor system
dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors
aluminum pedals
and cloth seats! I hate leather. The only thing I wish my car had was VLSD and traction control. CC would be nice but certainly not nessisary.
