Engine options in OZ ?
Hi, I have a 260Z and am wondering what you aussies think would be the best engine option to go with from an aussie/jap import(availible in OZ of course) would be?
I was thinking along the lines of either..
1JZGTE
2JZGTE
17MGTE (?) single turbo supra...
Ford V8
RB25DET
Anybody from OZ have experience with engine conversions for a Z ?
Cheers
Ray

Re: Engine options in OZ ?
Hey Ray
Hows it going ? I recently picked up a '72 240Z for $1500 and have found a good to path to take with the engine. I went to a jap parts importer and this is the deal he gave me:
R32 Skyline GTS-T 4door front cut $2000 (breaks, aircon, turbo, intercooler, computer, etc.. )
R32 GTS-T Rear LSD diff (4 wheel stear 2 pot vented rotors) $900
set of 4 adjustable shocks and springs $400 for the set of 4
And all up he said he would fit the lot for $5300 which includes; RB20DET turbo motor, skyline gearbox 5spd, R32 4piston vented front breaks, the aircon hooked up, intercooler mounted and hooked up, LSD diff installed without the rear wheel steer but with the twin piston discs, and the shocks fitted.
After the conversion its getting a Haltech engine management computer, trust 2 stage boost controler, atmousphere BOV, so that should make it good for around 300HP with stock turbo and intercooler. That should pretty much smoke most things on the roads in Brisbane all for about $8000.
If you want any more information email me at Jake@z.itgo.com
Hope that helped

Re: Engine options in OZ ?
pretty much all the Nissan motors drop straight in...
rb20det
rb25det
rb26dett
rb30/rb30det
of course its all going to be very expensive, maybe 12-15k once you factor in the front cut, installation, brakes, bigger wheels to fit the big brakes in, suspenension and bracing and so forth.

Re: Engine options in OZ ?
all those will fit as ive seen or had. the ford funnily enough will probably be the easiest(check out www. hybridz.org)
the supra engines work well but take a lot of work as with the clutch fork on the wrong side hiting the exhaust
the skyline engine will have eisier mounting but are taller and require sump pan mods.of course all but the ford will require aftermarket computers .the ford will wire up very easy(was that the 351 v8? ---go holden killa 950 kg car V8 baby yeah)
have fun.
