Just so we can put thing in perspective on this,....How was a McDonald's hamburger back then? 10 cents, maybe? Now they're 89 or 99 cents. If gas inflated at the same rate, then we'd be paying over $5/gallon.

Actually 3 for $1 rings a bell............ but I could be confused.
Since my memory is getting foggy, I did a search, and it was roughly $.67 per gallon.

Yep, both gas and hamburgers have grown in price slower than the rate of inflation. Gas, because we're a superpower controlling the world. and hamburgers from efficiency improvements and that the minimum wage has grown substantially slower than inflation

yes, but food is optional, whereas fueling the z is essential.

I just filled up 2 days ago and it was something like $2.39 a gallon for 89 octane.
