Buahahaha! I've been there. I once tried to remove a stupid Ford locking lugnut on an Escort/Tracer by welding a lugnut ontop of it... snapped it right down at the rim base. Sorry to say, it cost me about $40 in carbide drill bits, $20 for a junk yard rim, and about 3 hours of drilling/chiseling to get it off.

Now... before doing all that, take it to a tire shop & see if they can help you.

Uh... don't use a hammer.... you'll kill the rim long before breaking the lugnut. Tap a socket over the top & use a ratchet to remove it.

You and I are in the same boat...stupid lock nuts. Are your "nuts" recessed or flush with the rim? This is what I have to figure out how to remove...

If your "nuts" are sticking out above the hole then yes, hammer a socket onto it and use a long handled breaker bar or ratchet to take it off as normal...no need to break the stud off...however if it looks like mine...flush with the hole you are going to have problems.

You'll need to tap it on w/ a hammer... and kiss that socket goodbye (you'll never get the lugnut out of the socket). $2 is a cheap price to pay. Thxone... You should be able to get a socket in there. I had the same amount of room as that. I think I used a sparkplug socket.

go to homedepot or autozone. get the sockets that are used to get off rounded bolts... it will get those off at ease.

Well I just got my back two lock nuts off WOOHOO!!!! I used a 23mm socket, 2lb sledge and an old tq wrench.

I would say use a socket that is JUST BARELY smaller than the lock nut and hammer that thing on there good and tight then just remove the lock nut as you would a normal lug nut BUT DO IT SLOW, DON"T JERK IT, slow and even pulling. Whatever size works make sure you have two or three of that same size in case you break one...my socket split as I was hammering it on the second lock nut so have a backup and a backup for your backup...good luck man...you have it easier trust me. Can you take a pic of the lock nut?

The best way I've ever seen to remove those style locks without the key is to use a rotohammer style drill with a wide chisel bit. Just center it on the lug, set the drill to rotate in the counter clockwise direction and hammer away. Without a rotohammer you might be able to remove it just using a good chisel and a hammer digging it into the outside edge and driving it off slowly. It really shouldn't be too tight since usually that style key slips out before you can get them too tight.
