my new datsun truck!!
alright, so i needed a truck. so the search went on. i found a 1975 datsun sport truck. no rust mint condition. they guys buddy swapped the motor to what looks like a 1.8L. i dunno. it runs like crap, backfiring and such. prolly a spark problem. anybody here know which 1.8L i have? when it ran, it went like stink, it was cold, and i was running it kinda hard to get the old gas out. then i shut it off to check everything, and it died. so 200 bux later its at my house and its gonna get fixed up. im gonna get pix when the rain stops, and its daylight. it 1 am now, and i started out at 8pm. ouch what a day. i only paid 1200 bux for a original truck with 35,000 original miles on it, and its smog tested and had passed 6 months ago.

I'm pretty sure it originally came with that L18 motor. I'd start with a complete tune-up including new dizzy cap, rotor, condensor, & plug wires. (if they look original). Where the wires come out of the side of the distributor, check closely for cracks in the insulation near the rubber grommet. I've had a couple of experiences where the insulation cracked there and the wires shorted out.
Nice find on the low mileage truck

did you pay 200 or 1200?
In the US, 1975-79 originally had the L20b.
1973-L16, 1974-L18
L motor swaps are common. The L18 is the common low milage imported engine from Japan that a lot of those older Datsuns end up with when their original engine goes bad. Clean 620's are hard to find

the L18 has been swaped in, it did come with the 20b. i read the fender tag. i gotta figure out what kind of dizzy its got, cause parts are gonna be hard. i want electric iggnition module for it, but where? and the front brakes are drum, cause its early 75, later in 75 it looks like they came with disc. so a swap will be in need. its power drums right now, so not so bad. i sure dont fit well with these buckets in the truck tho. i got some real thin seats im gonna swap in. so what kind of car/truck did the L18 come in, so i can get parts. i phones today on it, my options were L20 and L14. sooo what can i order parts for. is the L18 and L20 the same for tune up parts? and where can i get disc spindles and parts for the swap. anybody got some? and whats a good datsun truck site for info, kinda like this one? and oops yeah 1200 bux. forgot the one hehehehe was still a steal.
