Indeed. "Upgraded" cam and rockers. Gotta put together my 318ti & then work on the Z.

Naw... for the time, effort, money, supplies to port, and little gain, it's not really worth it to me (not for the L28ET anyway). And they are new valves, but stock size I believe... the machine shop never said anything to me about going oversized.

After much pondering, I think now that it was crappy bad oil. Even tho the oil only had a couple hundred miles on it, it had sat for almost a year in the car, through winter, summer, winter... I'm going to change the cam / rockers & use synthetic oil to see if that will solve the lube prob.

I hope you plan to use a good quality non synthetic oil to break in the new stuff - for at least 500 miles then switch to synthetic...do it right man...do it right.

i dont think there is a much of a breakin in period for cams its probably a good idea to take it easy for a bit but im pretty positive you can use synthetic right away, and why were you using synthetic in teh first place? i love that stuff

new cams require 20 minutes at 2500 rpm, non synthetic, then one oil change with non-synthetic. then do what ever you want. for good measure put a new oil pump on, its kinda security.

Why was or wasn't I using synthetic??? I didn't have synthetic in it because the motor had about 2500 miles on it. You don't use synthetic to break in a motor.

Yeah, a couple fresh oil changes will hopefully clean out all the freaking metal shavings from my cam lobe!

Engine break in is usually 500-1000 miles. Synthetic is molecularly thinner than organic (normal) oil. If you put synthetic in a motor that's been using traditional it's whole life, things will leak as the gaps between metals & seals has actually been wider for the thicker oil.
