I've heard both sides of this argument many times before, and since no one ever has any proof that one way is better than the other (aka damage...), then it really is "to each his own".
I do know BRAAP has R&R'd many cam towers himself... but I don't know if he uses the cam line hone to make sure they are straight before cam installation.

Well, we removed the cam towers with the cam. The rear most cam tower had some nice grooves in it along with the rear most part of the cam in that tower. For some reason it was not getting oil. We took them apart and then put in my N/A cam I had from Shady, along with the cam towers from my old P90A head. We got everything bolted in, got the cam gear at the end connected back to the cam. Then we sat there cranking the engine with no plugs or rocker arms in so the cam would spin freely as possible. It was getting oil at all the towers now. So everything looked good. The old cam, the front pin had sheared off completely and was stuck in that gear.
Anyway we put it all back together, popped the valve cover on and then tried again. Still no start. Then we were trying to check for spark. The spark looked kinda weak, maybe it's just hard to see in bright daylight. Then we noticed the rotor in the distributor someway got caught as that metal piece that sits on top was all messed up. No auto parts stores had a rotor in stock so we just sorta rigged the old rotor back up to try and get it to work. Oil Pump looks like it's good ol' one tooth off. Unfortunately I didn't put the oil pump on the mechanic who's been helping me did. Anyway we took the bolts out and just worked rotating the dizzy until we found a good spot. Finally the car started. It actually sounded quite good. Right now it's sitting with the MAF just to straight air, I'm going to throw a cone filter on it, and the exhaust only has the MSA downpipe from the turbo. It was quite loud, but sounded awesome. It was actually even revving pretty smoothly. Idle was kinda lumpy, then I realized I didn't have the CHTS in. So there's more to work out, but it runs. Finally...
