Transmission Fill Fun!

So, my friend and I pulled apart his dad's truck to put a new clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, throwout bearing, etc. Anyway once everything was back together we remembered that we neglected to fill the transmission. So we had to find a way to get the fluid into the hole on the side. There's no room to get any sort of funnel, we didn't have any hose to do a siphon. So it ended up with me using a the top of a spray bottle, connecting it directly to a quart of ATF and spraying about 3 quarts into the transmission. It probably took at least 30 minutes if not longer. I wish I had a picture of the ATF bottle with the sprayer on the top.

hehe... hopefully you didn't have it on "mist."

You know they do make "pump tops" for tranny bottles right? And when in a tight spot, pump the bottle up & down instead of the handle. Either way... sounds like ya got the job done.

Luckily I didn't have it on mist. I figured they probably did make stuff for doing that, but we were ready to get this done and not have to buy anything else. Although in the time it took we probably could have gone to the store.

Yes they do...it cost me a whopping $8 and some change..lol I bought one back in '06. When I was doing the motor swap in my '82. I just used an antifreeze bottle. Filled it up with the gear oil. And put the pump on top. Works great...and a good investment.. I also used it on my '82 slicktop also. When I put a new clutch in it. So I have used it a couple times..heh heh
