Good news for F Prepared Z cars?

Hey guys,
Don't know if any of you have been paying attention to the SCCA and their plans to revise the Prepared classes somewhat. They recently posted their latest proposal at http://www.scca.org in the "garage" section. The big news this month is the weight formula. What it means to Z cars is either no change or less weight. My 280 would drop 30 lbs to 2070. 260s actually get to lose over 70 lbs to 1926. The RX7s stay about the same at 1900 lbs, Chris ***'s M3 gets nailed with an extra 200 or 300 lbs depending on which engine he's running. The Porsches, for the most part, have to add somewhere between 50 and 150 lbs with some getting as much as 300.
They have also proposed allowing >16" dia. wheels for a 100 lb penalty and up to 12" wide wheels for a 50 lb penalty. For me, that means I can run 12's without adding any weight from where I sit now. Not that I really WANT to spend $1000+ and then reflare the car, but it would be cool!
I am kind of concerned that the extra weight thrown at the Porsches would drive away the few remaining cars. I would love to pick up the advantage, but if they don't stick around it just wouldn't matter.
If any of you have any concern on the issue, write a letter to the Solo Events board and tell them... for or against.

Hey Tom,
I haven't veiwed the new proposal yet , but I figured that Chris would eventually take a hit for using the 3.2 motor and that little weight in his car.
With the wider wheels and slick you will definately need a Gym membership
or power steering . I know they Prepared classes are facing a shake up do to low regional attendance numbers.

Mike

BTW did you see Chris's dyno numbers from Vic Sias's shop ?

I have not seen Chris' dyno numbers. I looked on Vic's site, but didn't see anything there. What are they?

As for the 12's, I'm planning to write in opposition to that part of the proposal. I think they should require more weight. If it does pass, I'll wait until I feel uncompetitive and then bite the bullet.

We all know who the 12's will benefit the most the higher horsepower heavy cars .

Okay, I went back to Vic's site .... himmmm , I must be on the crack pipe , because I could have sworn they were there the other day withe the rest
of the dyno numbers. I didn't see if Chris was registered for this weekends
Pro Solo in California .

All I did find was their engine page

My 16x12 Panasport wheels are one week away, after a 3 month wait. I was just going to run in A prepared but who would think the SCCA would change direction just for me! I will take some pics under the three different style fiberglass flares I have, IMSA, 280YZ and MSA street flares. If you ran rear flares like you have Tom, up front they might fit. Take a look at this GT-2 car. I suspect 16x10 wheels but with more outboard offset. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopos...t=7&thecat=500

That looks different... definitely looks like my rear flares on the wrong end of the car. Now if we could just get rid of all those girls to see the rear flares.... did I just say that?

Damn I'm getting too old...

Saw your note to the prepared list Tom. It favors you but not me. I don't really care either way about the wider wheels. It would be nice if 17's were legal because there are lots of used 17's available from the road race guys. Not much out there in 16's so we gotta treat the tires real nice when they are $1000 a pop to replace with a new set.

But I am building the 1900# 240. Now I need to stroke it. Next thing you know they will want me to undo all my seam welding. I don't like moving targets when it costs me money.

Maybe thats what the SCCA IS TRYING to do. Chase everybody out of FP so they can kill it.

I hope to see you at the races in about a month maybe if I can come up with some new tires. Edit - Maybe not. It looks like Spokes is running on the weekend of the RGVPCA event. I plan on killing last years tires at that. Divisionals then?

Those are 15X10. Here's a rear shot

and the rest of the pics

Hey John,
I hope to see you back up this way again soon. It's looking like Ric Martinez might dust off his car and return and I believe Corky Matney has bought Brian Taubman's car and should be showing up occasionally. Now if everyone would just go to the Divisional we could have some fun there as well!
Keep in mind if you stroke your 240, you just made it a 260 and the weight goes up a bit...

More cars is good news. That's what I meant about the stroking. According to your note the 260 is only 1924 lbs so it looks like there is no point in staying with the 240 at 1900.
