Z nationally competitive in BSP anymore??
I've been out of the solo II loop for a few years, and was shocked to see that there weren't any zcars in the 2003 Solo II National, BSP results. What changes made this happen?

Here is what i have heard from a few racers on this . First of all the Corvettes
and Bimmers rule the field in BSP. One thing that keeps the Z's out of the running is $$$$$$$ . Not many Z owners are willing to throw down 50k on their cars to keep up with the C4's and M3's . You have to figure that the Vette and BMW owners are buying their cars for more then most Z owners have into a race set up 240. Vic and Andy proved that the 240 could beat the Other guys , but they paid to do so. Vic had a ton of development time and money into his car, and he wasn't even running $1500 a corner shocks. I have Bill Beutow and LJ Moffet in our area and they have won or been runners up in most of the SCCA BSP events. I invited them to one of our local events a few years back and they have extremelly deep pockets in order for them to run that car. They showed up to the event along with thier old team car a 993
Porsche ASP car . Duke Langley a 5th place Vette finisher at Nationals is also in our area and comes to our local events, he said that the Z in race trim is as fast as his car is .
I personaly would like to see the Z moved to ESP where the other rear wheel drive cars are , and a softer PAX index .

The last time a 240Z ran in BSP at Nationals was 2001. That was Vic and his co-driver Scott. IIRC, his was also the only Z to run in BSP in 2000.
What happened was the C4 Corvette was dropped down from ASP into BSP and the E36 M3 was also moved into the class. The C4 has become the car to have if you want to win. Owners of both the C4 and M3 have improved their cars since 2001. I don't know what anyone would or could do to improve on Vic's old car. IIRC, the 240Z was put in BSP because the SCCA determined it was non-competitive against the C4s when they were in ASP together.
I think the SCCA should move the Z to DSP. DSP is now the home of the Lexus IS300 and BMW 3 Series. Both have inline sixes. Both carry more weight than a Z but have more modern brakes, suspensions, and engines. DSP is also the home of the old Mercury Capri V6. The Capri is a close match when comparing stock specs to the Z. Both may run 2.8 sixes, both have front disc/rear drum brakes, and there is only about a hundred pounds difference in weight.
Thats my take, you're welcome to disagree.

I never thought about DSP THat makes perfect sense to me . All it takes is enough people to send in their requests to the comp. board to change things.
On the subject of the C4's improving things . One reason why they brought the Nationals winning Vette to out event was to test out their new remote
resevoir shocks and some motor tuning stuff.
