2004 Chevy Silverado Z71
I was bored, so I figured I'd post about it.
I bought it almost 6 months ago. It's a great truck. It has the 5.3 Vortec V-8. 4-door extended cab. I've added a Gibson cat-back exhaust, MAC hi-flow intake, Superchips programming, hi-flow MAF and a throttle body spacer. It came stock with 295-300HP, depending on who you talk to. Based off of the power claims of the mod part manufactures, I'd have 375 HP. I figure I'm around 350HP. I get about 17 MPG. Not bad for a V8. I'd like to add a set of headers in the near future. If anyone is considering purchasing one,...I highly recommend it.

Will do.
It's not a matter of her letting me do it. I'm the man and I make the decisions. Yeah right. It more comes down to I make much more than she does, so I can afford it. I also pay double what she does on the house and other mutual expenses. I'm sure that if/when we get married, that will all change....along with many others things; which we have discussed other threads.

ha ha ha ......... Soon after I was married, I talked about buying a new motorcycle. The wife said if I bought a motorcycle she'd leave me, I said "Goodbye" and bought it. 24 years later, numerous motorcycles, and a crap load of cars and she's still hanging in there. In fact she loves the Z and looks pretty hot in it. She even ended up riding a quad herself for 7 - 8 years when the kids were riding.
Oh well, sorry to hiJack your thread.

Because those things are Pavement Princesses. You don't want to take them off road anymore than you would a Z. I wouldn't buy the lightning because it's a Ford. I'm a Chevy/GMC guy. The psyclone could be fun, but you wouldn't go out and play in the mud with it. I don't like Dodge either, so I'd never consider the SRT.

Avavlanche
I talked the wife into getting rid of the graeded Mini-van, and get a truck. We test drove evry crew cab truck on the market. We decided on the Chevy Avalanche. It has the most interior room,( with 2 boys this is important). It is very well designed, and I an off road in it. The biggest reason was ride qaulity. i have 2 4" rods in my lower back so i cant have a jarring ride like the Dodge and Ford. The Chevy 1500 Z71 was a nice ride but the Avalanche had more usability. You get the interior room of a suburban without the back seat. A water tight bed that locks, so all your goodies are safe inside. And I get up to 23mpg on the interstate. The body molding protects the paint when off roading thru the sage brush.
The unuiqness make its resale value better then a pick-up. When I was looking for a truck I went with what was hardest to find on a used car lot. In March of 2004 i did a search for Avalanches in a 500 mile radius, I founf none used. I did a search for the new F-150 and Duramax. i found a lot of those. I used this to determione that people who buy Avalanches dont get rid od them.

My Avalanche has the 5.3. My brother has the 8.3. I think the 327 is plenty of motor for the truck. I get twice the mileage that mt brother gets in his.
As for my account I could no longer post with it. I created a new one and problem solved.
If you havent drivin and Avalanche go and treat yourself one day. I gaurantee that the loks are appriate for the truck. They handle great for a full size truck. They are very quiet and comfortable.Kinda like you ZXTT when you first drove it.

He bought it cause when have you ever said I have too much motor. He also goes off roading a lot outside of Denver in the mountains. I takemine off roading a lot also and have not found anything that I cant drive thru or over yet. I also like having the plastic molding cause it protects the paint from Sage brush and door dings.
I just got back from a 2500mile trip. I drove the whole trip. i went from Pocatello to Fresno going across 80 thru Reno then down 50. I drove from Fresno to Morgan Hill and back on 1/2 tank.
When I drove home we across the desert on highway 58 to 15. Then north home. I did see a lot of Z,s on 15 heading towards LA.

Anyone know who makes a set of long tube headers for this truck? I've been told that Supermaxx could be the best, but I'm having a hard time finding a retailer. I'd also like to install a larger y-pipe. If I go with the long tubes, I may have to have one custom made.
I'll be doing this after the Z is back and running. I'm just doing a bit of research now.

NICE yeah My dad has a 2001 GMC Sierra Extended cab. it also comes with the 5.3L vortec V8. We currently justa have a flow master and a set of edelbrok headers from Jegs. we are saving up to supercharge it. we have a pretty good quote with Procharger. the package is 4900$. it is worth every penny tho. this is what it includes;
Supercharger
K&N intake
FMIC
all of the piping
larger injectors
superchips ECU tuning (removes speed limiter)
high flow fuel pump
U can safely boost up to 12 PSI. if U add a bigger throttle body and spacer. forged pistons, aluminum heads, and conecting rods. then u can do 18 - 22 PSI. and U probably be working betwen 500 - 650 RWHP. i've done the math.
Now if U add 2 oil coolers 1 for motor and 1 for trany. a stronger drive shaft and tourque converter a Z06 drive shaft. U will be spanking on lightningas and SRT10's oh yeah did I mention U can still offroad?

You also might want to check with Borla. I am going to use their system on my 02 Avalanche. They make a sweet cat bak system with dual exhaust running straight back. I am going to put in my Cold Air Intake first then do the exhaust otherwise the exhaust would not make a difference.
Just a thought.
