'76 Datsun Pickup
Well this was my first vehicle. $3200 out the door, brand new in 1976. It was bone stock and I added all of the other stuff including, an awesome for the time, Pioneer Supertuner stereo with 8-track and a 60-watt power amp. I later had a camper shell with my home stereo speakers in the back. During that time I was a member of one of the socal mini-truck clubs that were around and we'd go cruise Van Nuys blvd, Whittier blvd. and the local mountain roads. It was a BLAST. After only two years, I got burned out on the l'il truck and bought a chevy van. I only kept if for a year because the payments and insurance put too big of a dent in the party money. I subsequently bought another Datsun pickup, fixed it up somewhat the same and then dropped in a 327 cu/in. chevy. It was pretty fun to be able to smoke the tires at 40 mph. and stuff. One friend at the time put a 283 cu/in chevy in his chevy luv pickup and another friend put a 350 cu/in. chevy in his datsun 240z. We has some pretty good drag races. I could pull the z up to my max speed with the stock 4.56 rear gears, about 120, and then he'd just cruise away. I drove this for another coupla years before I again moved on to other vehicles. I did have a 3rd datsun pickup, which I'll have a 4th when I find a decent one. I might type about my Datsun 110, my 510's, and some other cars in another thread.
