Head is back from the machine shop. He had to replace two exhaust valves. Apparently they had to be shipped in (I guess from Mars due to the delay!). Looks good! I'll start the install tomorrow night.

Indeed. I've been driving my Z, Toyota truck, or Saturn (carpool w/ the wife) while the Geo is down. The Z has about 650 miles on the motor. Time for an oil change (oil transfer to the Geo).

My 1990 ford Probe did this exact same thing. Turned out the water pump was trashed but spun free. Weird but the water pump on yours im sure runs off your timing belt.Mine was driven off the crank pulley. Did you pull a hose while the car was running to make sure you have coolant flow. Or maybe check for a stuck thermostat. probe did this for 2 years extremely frustrating.

Yeah, checked the coolant flow from the top of the radiator. Once the thermostat opens, it flows like it should. I checked all possible suspects before pulling the head. I may still replace the radiator due to many bent fins, but because it's a small "special" radiator (14"x14") it's $130-$180.

you're right! $180 is a lot.

You can get some really good BIG radiators for that much. Can you custom fit a larger radiator in there? That website above has all aluminum radiators for less than $100 if you look around. VW, Fiero, Nissan...
