starter fluid
#3
i've been told that ether is very dangerous for most gas engines. it blows by the rings and voids the cylinders of lubrication, therefore there is accelerated wear on the engine during start-up. i'm thinking of buying a vehicle on which the owner has confessed to using starter fluid. should i avoid it?

It wouldn't matter unless he like used it every day for a long time. but I have heard of the term "either baby" on some things, mostly heavy equipment that needed it to start every time.
If it doesn't smoke/burn oil and starts just fine I think the car is just fine.

I'd be more concerned as to why he needed to use the **** to start with.
now then, that being said, it's not bad for motors. if massive amounts of it were used it could wash down the cylinder walls. other than that, it's probably not super great for rubber components, but that's just a guess.
