Rb20det ?????

Has anyone ever seen an early model z with an RB20DET engine installed in it ??
I have pretty much decided to install the one I have in my 260z for kicks and to be different. It has 210 hp stock with only 6 psi of boost. 370cc injectors. air mass sensor,, crank angle sensor, and a newer style a/c compressor,, 24 valve duel over head cam head. I know it seems insane to go from a 2.8 to a 2.0 butthe bottom line number kind of speak for themselves. It will be more dependable and more of a daily driver type drive line ???? The claims are that bigger intercooler and dialing up the boost will give the engine almost 300 hp. still debating but seriously considering it

I think all of the RB engines have been put into the early Z chassis, I would imagine all it requires is some work on the mounts and of course the electronics to run it. Dunno if you'll be able to retain your driveshaft, shorten it, or replace it. Rumor has it that RB's have cooling problems, so an upgraded radiator would be a good idea (same as for your turbo L28 though). You've done engine swaps before so you probably know the drill :-D

There's a guy who has one.

I don't know if you'll actually see any increase in reliability, the L28ET as you know is already very stout. You'll have less grunt off-boost with the 2.0L, though it probably breathes easier up top due to all those extra valves and improved head design. I'd imagine it'll rev a bit higher and a bit smoother. Problems I forsee (and keeping me from doing the RB thing) are that the RB was never offered here and so parts for when it breaks or wears out are harder to find. Your power goals are reasonable though so you might never need parts, I on the other hand think I may be on the edge eventually with my engine! Think, though, you will need timing belts and water pumps eventually...

You're mostly doing it for the wow effect I imagine, which I will admit is harder to achieve with a ho-hum old L-motor under the hood If you're going to inconvenience yourself with the foreign parts supply, you might want to just spend the extra for the RB26DETT...even more wow for your dollar, closer (stock) to your desired output, and it'll still be a "260" Z!
