Close call tonight!!!

So I was coming home from work and while I was driving down Craig I heard this weird squeaking nose coming from outside on the driver's side of the car. I was doing about 45mph with my foot barely on the pedal and the squeaking was getting louder. So I give it a little gas and the squeaking stops....slow back down and the squeaking comes back....brake and the squeaking stops. So at this point I'm thinking "crap I got another nail in the tire or something and it's making a weird noise on the pavement." I stop and check all four tires,....nothing protruding from the tire...everything looks fine. I get back out on the road and it starts doing it again. Anything over 35mph and it starts squeaking. Well now I'm thinking maybe it's one of the springs that I put on and it's squeaking on the rubber boot cuz it's only doing it when the suspension is not moving around a whole lot. Did a couple of movements side to side and when I went left the squeaking got louder; when I went right the squeaking stops. So at this point I'm freaking out cuz I know what this means......loose lugnuts!!! So I drive about 15 mph the rest of the way home and park the car. Apparently either one of two things happened this last week:

1.) When installing the springs and torquing down the rest of the suspension parts; I apparently torqued down the left rear wheel at around 54lbs/ft. This was tight enough to let me drive on it a while but eventually the lugs started to come loose and were squeaking up against the wheel when enough centrifugal force was applied to them....too much or too little would stop the squeaking.

2.) I must have someone who hates me on base and is f***ing with my car while it's parked in the parking lot.

I really think it's more of a #1 issue at this point. 3 of the 5 lugs were almost completely loose; the other two were hanging on for dear life. It's only by the good grace of GOD that I didn't strip-out/damage the lug bolts or loose a wheel which would have caused a good amount of damage to my car. What gets me is that all of us double checked everything at our impromptu tech-session on Friday and I've been driving around like this for the past 3 1/2 days without hearing anything till tonight plus the other wheels were all still torqued at 80lbs/ft. Well I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it; at least my baby is safe and I made it home okay.

I'm glad you got home fine! That must've been hellacious driving home like that. I thought we torqued all the wheels down to 83 ft-lbs... that is damn scary.

Sounds familiar .

Glad everything came out ok and you didn't sustain as much damage as my Chevelle did.
