Just passed smog...

FYI for all you FI folks, I just passed smog check with no problem. No questions asked. I have no cats.

Makes me think my engine is fine, I have no smoke from the exhaust and it runs smooth as ever.

Hmm....

As long as you don't have a check engine light and all of your sensors are plugged in (not "not ready" codes), you'll pass smog. There isn't supposed to be any visual inspection anymore.

If the price of new 02 sensors is less than what I have to pay the smog guy to pass it, then that could work.

If it's the rear O2's, replace them with O2 Sims, problem solved forever. If it's the front's, I'd say replace them because you need them. The ECU uses them when running in closed-loop.

So the only reason that you think it's blown is the bad compression check? Otherwise it's running perfect? That's odd.

yep, i'll have it further diagnosed next week when i have the uninstall at GT Motorsports - from what i hear, a bad piston ring will result in lots of smoke and rough idle, none of which i have.

Depends on which ring is bad. Each piston has a few rings. If a compression ring went bad, you'll have blow-by into the crankcase but won't burn much oil unless the oil ring also went bad.
