New camera and Kelli's IS300...
I got a new camera last night so we went out for a little night time photo shoot with Kelli's IS300. I bought it literally an hour before I took these pictures so bear with me, I still don't know how to work it. I was trying to play around with the manual settings and I kept the shutter speed too slow so most of them came out blurry. The camera is the 7.1 megapixel Canon Power Shot SD550 Digital Elph and the pictures were taken at the UNLV parking garage. Here are some of the better pics...

a tripod would do wonders for those pics. The car looks good though How does she like the IS300? My wife will be in the market for a different car when we get to vegas. she likes the a4/is300/scion tc... she wants something cheap cause she is going back to school this year. we are supposed to be selling her xterra today (crosses fingers).

It had a tripod...but pushing the button with an ISO of 50 still came out blurry. Anyway, she loves her IS300. I also have one for my daily driver and I love it too. Its an awesome car and you can find them all day long at good prices. They will run forever too. The only drawback is that there is only one Lexus dealership in town and the are terrible.

oh, okay. if pushing the button is making the camera move some, you can set the timer. it would take a little longer to do a photoshoot, but it should make the pictures more crisp.
If we buy an IS300 we will definately get it used, so hopefully we wouldnt have to deal with a dealership very often. she really likes the scion tc alot too, so who knows

Yeah I should have probably bumped it up to 100. I thought about setting the timer, but I had only had the camera for an hour and I didn't know how. Next time I will do it right. Besides, on that little 2.5" screen on the back of the camera they didn't look blurry...
Did a little photoshopping on this one...
EDIT: BTW Ty, my ISO only goes up to 400

What kind of camera did you get? I have had the same problems as well with my camera but it all depends on what setting you are using. I've been going with full manual adjustment for my pics. Considering the amount of light you had in the pic I would think that you had either one of two problems:
1. Shutter speed set wrong; possibly set to a longer time than needed. The longer the shutter is open the more light that is let in, which makes dark objects look brighter. The only problem with this is that any movement at all will make the picture look blurry or out of focus. I suggest a faster shutter speed (anything past 1/2 and up if the lighting will allow it) lower your aperture and maybe raise your ISO to around 200 or 400. The only problem is that ISO can make a picture look grainy when used in most conditions.
2. The camera focused on the car clearly but right before the picture was taken it tried to focus again. I have this problem with my camera every once in awhile. I'll focus on a picture and right before I go to take it the camera wigs out and the picture goes blurry. It's annoying! My camera has an object/distance finder that emits a green light to pick out certain objects in the picture. It's supposed to help find the best center for a picture but it doesn't always work the way you want it to.
Hopefully this helps, but then again, I'm new to this as well!?

I got a Cannon PowerShot SD550. Like I said, I had the camera for literally an hour before I took those pics so that was my first time playing around with it. Next time I will try raising the ISO and using the timer instead of physically pushing the button. Hopefully that works.

That was a great idea for photos. I love how the low hung lights played on the car. Really set the lines off. Plus that bright light looked bitchin on the dark car and made it just pop out. God luck on figuring out the camera. Keep praticing and posting pictures.

Valley of fire is good. The UNLV parking garage is also good at night and its completely empty. I was also talking to another member last night at BWW and he is trying to set up an awesome photo shoot for us. I will let him explain .

Cool. I'm pretty familiar with photoshop though. I took a class a few years ago plus I'm a wannabe semi-pro photographer.
I have photoshop 7 on my old computer, but I figured I'd upgrade to a "real" copy of CS2 on my new computer. I still need to get my printer set up too. Maybe I'll get around to rearranging my office tonight.
I picked up an Epson 1800 on the cheap. I had a 2200 but it's been sitting for so long that the heads are gummed up beyond repair and it's got some paper feed problems. I've been meaning to put it on Ebay for spare parts.

Off topic but one of the IT geeks (no offense Chris and Brian ) gave me a coupon code for $600 off of a Dell Inspiron $1899 or higher. So I bought a $1900 Dell laptop for $1300 + tax. Just thought I'd share. The Inspirons are on sale right now anyways but the coupon code gets you a couple extra hundred off.
