Tnsw 09/15

Are you guys ready for another TNSW? For those who haven't been to one, the Thrusday Night Street Wars Drag Races is the best drag racing event for your money. Now that school is in session, not to many people show up so you can literally run the 1/4 mile and drive right back around to the starting line. Last TNSW I went to I got 19 runs in two hours and left early. It is also starting to cool off now so our times should be getting better. Cost is $20 to race, $10 to watch and the track will be prepped to NHRA specs.

I think we should also do another reaction time challenge. Hopefully we will get some more people to participate this time. The fee this time for the reaction time challenge will be $10.00. If you don't put in $10.00 then you can't win. The driver with the best reaction time gets the whole pot.

Sign up below. Put "Reaction Time Challenge" next to your name if you wish to compete for the cash.

1. Mike - Reaction Time Challenge

Same plan as usual. Meet at Poppa's Bar & Grill on Craig Rd. just W of I-15 at 7:00pm for food and pre-race trash talk. We will leave Poppas around 8:00pm and head to the speedway.

I'm in - but not for the R/T deal, I'm just trying to figure out how to launch.

Come on, the reaction time thing is cool. There's more to drag racing than just the E.T. And it's fun too. Bt your third run you'll have figured out about what your best E.T. is, but you can try to improve on your reaction time all night.

I think only hit a .122. The NHRA sport compact guys were hitting like .03 so there's definitely room to improve.

Yeah, most of the times I go to the dragstrip I run my fastest E.T. on my first run. With so many runs at TNSW you can use the first half of the night to do your E.T. and the second part to work on your reaction times.

It should. The cooler air temps wont hurt with your turbo either.

Well, I had a s**t ton of fun last night. I broke almost all of my own personal records and I won the raction time challenge. The night started off a Poppa's with Rob, Ty, Joe, and myself. Then we went to the track and I almost didn't get to run because I didn't have proof of registration, but luckily the hard *** tech inspector let me in because I had current tags. Joe, however, didn't get to run because the tech inspector made him realize that his license is expired, so he sat in the stands by himself most of the night. The biggest thing of the night (for me) is that I finally broke the 100mph mark with a 100.65mph trap speed! I also got down to a 14.236 1/4 mile!

It was a heated battle between Ty and myself for the reaction time challenge. For a good part of the night we would line up next to eachother and both pull 0.0 something reaction times on a consistent basis. At one point in the night I was leading with a 0.056 reaction time and as we were lining up, Ty looked at me and said "You know I am going to beat you this time right?" Well we lined up and the light turn green, Ty did beat me with a 0.044, but I also beat myself and him with a 0.020. A few runs later Ty cut a 0.024 and thats as close as he got. By the way, Rob still owes me $10

Rob ran a 13.6--@ 107mph for his fastest time with his APS single turbo and open diff.
I think Ty's fastest was a 14.9--

Oh, and the one time I finally line up with Rob he stalls at the tree and gets a 18 second 60' time.

.004!!!

That was pretty awesome though, I didn't think that I could cut a time like that. See what a little competition can do for ya?

My top speed has improved quite a bit 97.74 mph, but my times still suck 14.87. Weird, I'll have to think about that for a bit. Could have had something to do with running on the 19s I guess.

Hehe yeah, I'm not what you would call a "good driver". I was also getting higher top speeds, but not necessarily better times. Time for more mods!

The guy taking pics had an LVMS button up shirt on so I am assuming he was taking pics for the speedway. I can never find where he posts his pictures though.

Does anyone know where to find that formula for converting your time corrected for altitude and weather?

Here's a very simple one that gives you the dyno correction factor. Multiply your trap speed by the hp correction factor number and it'll give you roughly your corrected speed.

To apply it to your E.T. multiply the air density index to your E.T.

http://quarterjr.com/ Click on weather station.

Based on my slips for that night saying that the absolute barometer that night was 29.24, 78 degrees with 0 humidity you get these numbers.

HP correction factor of 1.051
Air density index of 94.5%

So if I ran a 14.87 @ 96.7 mph my corrected numbers would be 14.37 @ 101.63mph.

Here's a more complicated one that should be more accurate, but you need to know a lot about the atmospheric conditions.

What would mine be? 14.239 @ 100.63 mph before correction. Also, that doesn't take into account altitude does it?

Ok I found the NHRA Altitude Calculator and for LVMS approx. 2100 ft. above sea level here are my corrected times...

13.263 @ 101.65mph <---That doesn't sound too acurate gaining almost a full second but only 1 mph?

Ty's corrected times...

13.894 @ 97.72mph

Nevermind. I did the calculations wrong. Here is the right numbers...

Me - 13.892 @ 103.19 mph
Ty - 14.508 @ 99.16 mph

That sounds about right.

The altitude chart is ok generally, but it doesn't compensate for the air temperature. So really it's only accurate if it's 60 degrees out.

If you do the full calculation then Mike would have been about 13.455 @ 105.76.

So if you do the altitude correction and then do your weather correction I would have run a 13.455 @ 105.76!?
